Havre set for another busy week of American Legion baseball
The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team is coming off a tough stretch of Northern District games over the weekend. So they will certainly be glad to be back in the friendly confines of Legion Field tonight.
After four games against the Fort MacLeod Royals and Vauxhall Spurs in just over 24 hours this past weekend, the North Stars will take on the Great Falls Hawks tonight in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. at Legion Field.
Havre is familiar with the Hawks, having lost to the solid Great Falls Senior Babe Ruth team just last week in Havre. The Hawks beat the North Stars 12-7 in a nine-inning contest last week, but tonight, two seven-inning games are planned.
Havre, which is 2-17 overall and 1-7 in Northern A play, is entering the meat of its summer schedule, and head coach Dan Wirtzberger is hoping to see continued improvement from his club. And tonight’s rematches with the Hawks will be a good measuring stick.
Last Saturday, the North Stars earned their first conference win of the season, beating Fort MacLeod in the first of a two-game set in Havre. The North Stars then went north to Canada to battle the Spurs last Sunday, falling twice.
And with more league games upcoming next week, tonight’s games against the Hawks, and this weekend’s trip to the Deer Lodge Tournament, will be important building blocks for the young Havre squad.
Tonight’s games against Great Falls start at 5:30 p.m. at Legion Field. Havre is set to travel to Deer Lodge Thursday-Sunday. Havre is back at home to face the Great Falls Electrics June 27.
