New tribal court judges installed at Rocky Boy

The Chippewa Cree Tribal Business Committee at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation has hired new judges for its tribal court.

On the tribe’s official website at http://chippewacree.org/, an article says that at its June 6 meeting, the Business Committee voted to appoint a new chief judge and associate judge.

Dawn Running Wolf-Bitz, who had previously served as chief judge for the Blackfeet Nation in Browning according to the Montana Office of Indian Affairs website, received the most votes and was hired as chief judge, the article says.

Of the 10 candidates for the tribal associate judge position, Melody Bernard-Whitford received the most votes and was hired for that position.

The article says that the chief judge position became vacant after it was determined that the former chairman of the Business Committee, Ken Blatt St. Marks unconstitutionally appointed Duane Gopher to the position.

St. Marks has said that the Business Committee approved appointing Gopher to the position.

Tribal enrolled member Duane Gopher meets or exceeds all the job requirements, especially PREFERENCE FOR QUALIFIED ENROLLED MEMBERS OF THE CHIPPEWA CREE TRIBE However, the 7 meatheads who govern the tribe chose a non-enrolled person. The meatheads then fire the Judicial Commission on Friday for overstepping their bound over an unfavorable background check. Dumb and Dumber.
