Kamp for Kids still in planning

A group trying to bring back a decades-old Hill County tradition is still in the planning stages, with a change to the name of the youth summer camp.

Ursula Brese, who is one of the organizers for Kamp for Kids in Beaver Creek Park, said that while the Hill County Farmers Union board of directors approved a donation to help pay for the camp, they are not sponsors.

Other groups that have made donations include NorthWestern Energy, Bear Paw Credit Union, Independence Bank and Sheila Forshee’s real estate agency with Keller Williams Realty.

The flyers designed for the camp, set to run at Camp Kiwanis June 27-30, originally called the event Farmers Union Kamp for Kids. Brese said Monday that the name is just Kamp for Kids.

Hill County Farmers Union had organized and held a summer youth camp for decades until the camp was canceled a few years ago.

The organizers of Kamp for Kids, which started last year, are hoping to attract up to 50 children to attend this year’s four-day camp, which has a recycling theme — “Being Green.”

The organizers also are looking for volunteers to help as activity directors, cooks and chaperones. The chaperones must be at least 16 years old.

Camp applications can be picked up at Forshee’s agency in the bottom level of the Atrium Shopping Mall, or accessed online at her business website at http://sheilaforshee.com.

The camp costs $75 per child, although scholarships may be available.
