Havre High raises curtain on series of plays

Actors performing in 5 one-act plays starting tonight

The Havre High School Drama Department is giving a variety of shows to the community, starting tonight and running through Saturday.

The shows of the 10-Minute Play Festival start at 7:30 each night at the Havre High School Theatre.

Jay Pyette, Havre High’s director of drama, provided a summary of each of the short plays.

The first, Mary Miller’s “Ferris Wheel,” shows two strangers who meet while on a ferris wheel. Dorie, played by Hailee Kilgore, is afraid of heights, while John, played by Patrick Leeds, is trying to quit smoking, and “the results are hilarious.”

In “Railing it Uptown,” by Shirley Lauro, two women, played by Samantha French and Kristawna Fox, meet on the subway, and the first doesn’t know if the other is sane, dangerous — or just outrageous.

“The Man Who Couldn’t Dance,” by Jason Katims, shows what happens when Gail, played by Joslin LaSalle, invites Eric, played by Mike Woronik, over to have dinner. After the meal, she shows Eric her newborn daughter, which leads to a conversation about their past and the relationship they used to have.

“Yesterday’s Window,” by Chiori Miyagawa, is described as almost musical in nature. It describes the alternate realities of several characters, the description says, including a woman who may — or may not — have a daughter named September. The play stars Oriah Pratt, Bethany Ordiniza and Adrienne Miller.

The last selection is “Welcome to the Moon,” by John Patrick Shanley. Stephen, played by Bill Dolph, goes back to the Bronx to see his old friends Vinnie, played by Brandon Bergren, and Ronny, played by Raymond Campbell. “He is distressed and needs to see some of his old friends,” but doesn’t know his former high school girlfriend Shirley, played by Alexxys Stenson, also will be there. Adrienne Miller, playing Artie, rounds out the cast.

Tickets for the show cost $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors and $2 for children in kindergarten through eighth-grade.
