Our View: Cheers for organizers of 'Men Who Cook ...'

There are many obstacles that people involved in rural health care have to overcome.

Getting patients to health care services can be the biggest problems

When people live in rural Malta, it's not easy finding friends or family who can drop everything to get to Havre. There have been a few advances in providing transportation in rural areas, but for the most part, it's not easy getting to and from health care.

The problem becomes more severe when you are poor. And people who have illnesses often end up being poor.

A group of people in Hingham and the area have come up with a great way for people to have fun and help these folks who have trouble funding travel and getting lodging for relatives.

The Hi-Line residents have created "Men Who cook for Women Who Wine."

It's an annual social affair at the Hi-Line Community Center. Male chefs volunteer to prepare foods of all sorts which are sampled by the 250 people who pay tickets for the bash.

After tasting all the delicacies, attendees then vote for their favorite.

There is also the silent auction, a live auction and games for people to play throughout the evening.

The money raised at the event — thousands of dollars every year — goes to help people needing assistance with travel or lodging while they are getting medical care.

This year's "Men Who Cook for Women Who Wine" will be Saturday, March 23.

Tickets are $20 per individual and $35 per couple. The event is always fun for everyone.
