Havre's Paige Henderson ducks a pitch during Friday's Central A doubleheader between Havre and Browning at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. Havre swept the Indians.
Ponies earned two more conference wins, making it three on the season. The Ponies won the first game 13-0, and followed suit with a 19-6 win in game two.
"It was good to show off the things that we have been working on the last couple of weeks," Havre High head coach Danny Wirtzberger said. "We showed Browning we were the superior team and it was good to go out and get those wins."
In both games, the Ponies manhandled the competition.
They jumped all over the Indians with five runs in the first inning, and continued to roll in game one with seven runs in the second inning, and one more in the third. And in the shutout win with Davee McLeod in the pitchers circle, the Ponies allowed just one hit, while they earned 10 of their own. McLeod gave up just one since in the fourth inning, as she dominated nearly every batter to come to plate and racking up seven strikeouts.
Roxanna Jensen led the Ponies with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate, earning two RBIs as well. Reggie Bernard, Harlee Boucher, Brittney Garden, Sydne Huston, Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Tori Mazurkiewicz, McLeod, and Jordy Warren all had one hit each as well, while Boucher had three RBIs and Huston and Majeres had two RBIs each. Jacinta Finneman, Morgan Mazurkiewicz, and Dani Wagner also had one RBI each.
The trend of dominance continued in the nightcap, as the Ponies won by 13 runs.
Havre High sophomore Jordy Warren takes a swing during Friday's Central A fastpitch doubleheader between the Blue Ponies and Browning Indians at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The Blue Ponies swept Browning, but then got swept on the road by the Livingston Rangers on Saturday.
But Browning also had a better showing, as they earned six runs off of three hits and a handful of runs off of pitchers Majeres and Wagner. But Majeres did earn the win as she got plenty of run support.
This time the Ponies jumped all over the Indians with 11 runs in the first inning. Kimm Higgins pitched both games for the Indians, and the Ponies jumped all over her, totaling 18 more hits and taking advantage of nearly half a dozen Indian errors.
Majeres and Tori Mazurkiewicz both went 3-for-3 at the plate and earned two RBIs each to help lead the way for HHS. Carlson, Finneman, and Warren each went 2-for-2, with Carlson and Warren both grabbing one RBI each. But also getting in to the mix, Boucher had one hit and two RBIs, Facio had one hit and two RBIs, Garden had one hit and two RBIs, Henderson had one hit and two RBIs, Jensen had one hit and one RBI, and Morgan Mazurkiewicz had one hit and two RBIs to help the Ponies earn their second win of the afternoon.
The Havre High softball team cheers in the dugout during Friday's games against the Browning Indians.
"It was good that we were able to get all of our kids ample varsity playing time," Wirtzberger said. "Everybody got lots of innings so that was good. But I was hoping Browning was going to give us more of game so that it would have made us better in the future."
HHS also played Livingston in ta conference doubleheader on Saturday (See story on Page B2), suffering two losses. But the Ponies will have a few days to rest, as they will host the Havre Invitational on Saturday.
