Updated at 9:50 p.m.: The Havre High girls basketball team got past a tough Stevensville squad 40-36 Thursday night in the first round of the Class A state tournament at the Butte Civic Center. The win pushed Havre into Friday night's semifinals where the Ponies (14-7) will take on Eastern A runner-up Laurel at 8 p.m. The Locomotives knocked off Northwest A champion Frenchtown Thursday night.
Havre got 12 points from junior Brandy Lambourne, and the Ponies overcame a slow start in which they trailed the Yellowjackets 3-2 after the first eight minutes. Havre rebounded to lead 15-13 at halftime, and extended its lead to as much as nine points in the second half.

Updated at 9:20 p.m. Thursday: The Havre High girls out-scored Stevensville 10-5 in the third quarter and now lead the Yellowjackets 25-18 with eight minutes to play.
The Havre High girls took a 15-13 lead on Stevesnville into halftime of the opening round of the Class A girls state tournament in Butte. Havre trailed 3-2 at the end of a low-scoring first quarter.
