Pony track teams compete in Whitefish

The pool of talent was deep over the weekend, and the Havre High track and field program found itself competing in one of the tougher meets so far this season.

On Saturday, the Central A Blue Ponies competed at the Whitefish ARM Invitational in Whitefish. A handful of Pony athletes placed in the top six, but HHS did find it hard to come up with team points throughout the afternoon. The HHS girls finished in tenth place with 24 points, while the HHS boys finished in ninth place with 14. Plains won the girls title with 78, while Glacier was third with 74, and Flathead was third with 65. The Glacier boys were first with 162, while Whitefish was second with 111, and Frenchtown was third with 58.

Collecting the points for the Pony girls were Peyton Filius, Katie Christianson, Lacey Waid, and the 4x100 relay team.

Christianson had another solid weekend, placing in two events. She took third in the 3,200-meter with a time of 12:39.16, and took fifth in the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:45.01. Filius also grabbed a fourth place finish, finishing the 800-meter with a time of 2:33.34. The short relay team also finished with a time of 4:32.59 to earn a sixth place finish.

Waid continued to set Blue Pony records in the pole vault, her second consecutive record setting weekend. Waid cleared 10-0 and took the No. 1 spot, as she continues to dominate the pole vault week in and week out.

In boys action, Marc Klimas, Thurman Holdsclaw, Thomas Gruber and Ryne Antley all placed for the Ponies

Klimas and Antley grabbed a couple of sixth places finishes, as Klimas ran the 3,200-meter in 10:24.34, and Antley threw the javelin over 153 feet. Gruber and Plum also each earned a fifth place finish. Gruber cleared 12-6 in the pole vault, while Plum had a jump of 18-8 in the long jump. Holdsclaw had another big day in the pole vault, as he cleared 13-0 and took second place.

The Ponies have another short turnaround, as they will travel to Glasgow on Tuesday for the Top Ten meet.
