Report: UM football player cited for DUI

MISSOULA — A University of Montana football player was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence after a Missoula police officer stopped him for speeding, a newspaper reported Friday.

William "Bo" Harris was stopped for driving 45 mph in a 25 mph zone early on April 14, The Missoulian said.

Court records say Harris' blood-alcohol level was 0.097 percent, which is over the legal driving limit of 0.02 percent for people under the age of 21. The redshirt freshman from Fairfield also was cited for speeding and underage drinking.

His next appearance in Missoula Municipal Court is set for May 21.

There was no phone listing for Harris in the UM student directory, and no one answered the phone in the football office on Friday afternoon.

Senior associate athletic director Jean Gee says Harris has been sanctioned under the school's student-athlete code of conduct. She said privacy regulations prevent the school from revealing the sanctions.

Under the conduct code, a misdemeanor DUI is classified as a Category II violation, with a minimum one-game suspension.

In a separate case, a UM coach was sanctioned after a window was broken at a downtown bar early Sunday. Athletics director Kent Haslam said legal counsel advised him not to identify the coach. He said there was not a police report on the incident.

Haslam told the Missoulian coaches are held to a high standard.

"We have high expectations and we are not going to be afraid to hold them to high expectations," he said.

A player is being interviewed in connection with the window breaking incident, but Gee said the player had not yet been sanctioned.
