Breaking Sports: Lights blow out Argos, advance to semifinals

The Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team broke out of its shooting slump in a big way Wednesday night against the Great Falls Argos. No. 20 Northern hit eight first-half 3-pointers and 12 in all as the Lights trounced the Argos 74-52 in the first round of the Frontier Conference playoffs. The win pushes the Lights (23-8) into Saturday night's semifinals, where they'll face No. 17 UM-Western in Dillon.

Northern's Mike LaValley, left, handles the ball during Wednesday night's Frontier Conference playoff game in Havre.

Roshawn West scored 14 points and Alfie Miller added 12. Miller and West also combined for eight three's, while Jesse Vaughan scored 11 points and Will Perry chipped in with 10. The MSU-N defense limited UGF star Marcel Towns to just six points.

Northern and Western will face off at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Dillon, with the winner advancing to Tuesday night's championship game against either Lewis-Clark State or Rocky Mountain College.
