With the departure of three great seniors this spring, the Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team will have some new faces next fall. One of those a standout high school point guard from Wyoming.
MSU-Northern women's basketball coach Chris Mouat has announced the signing of Molly Kreycik to join the Skylight program next fall. Kreycik, a 5-8 guard from Douglas High School, helped lead Douglas to a 27-1 record and second-place finish in the Wyoming 3A State Tournament just a few weeks ago.
The Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team has signed Douglas, Wyo., point guard Molly Kreycik to an NAIA national letter of intent. Kreycik played for former Skylight great Jaci Heny in Douglas and was a Woyming 3A All-State selection. Skylight head coach Chris Ouat has now added a pair of standout high school players to his 2013 recruiting class. The Skylights have to replace seniors Jordan Bruursema, Kylee Denham and Nikki Tresch.
Kreycik missed all but one game of her junior year with a knee injury, but still broke the all-time career assist record at Douglas High School with 358. She also set the single season assist record this year with 145 this season. She was a three-year starter, and two-time Wyoming All-State and All-Conference selection. As a freshman, she earned honorable mention All-Conference honors. She has already been selected to play in the North/South Wyoming All-Star game.
"Molly is a great sign for us," Mouat said. "She has great court vision from the point guard spot, and gets the ball where it has to go. She is tough to the rim and a very capable perimeter shooter. I believe she'll be a great fit in what we do offensively. Defensively, she has a nose for the ball and anticipates extremely well. Beyond all of that, Molly is passionate about the game and a true gym rat. I believe she has a great future in our program, and she's a student-athlete we are very excited about."
Kreycik played at Douglas High School for former Skylight All-American Jaci Heny. This season, Kreycik led all players in Wyoming 3A with 5.1 assists per game. She also collected 3.4 assists per game (7th in 3A), shot 71 percent from the foul line (4th in 3A), 35 percent from the 3-point line, and 41% from the field. Twice this season, she dished out 10 assists in a game.
"Playing for Coach Heny, Molly will come into our program ahead of the curve on most freshmen, because there are some things very similar in our programs on offense and defense," Mouat said. "Molly knows how to compete, lead, and what it takes to be successful. She has been a big part of one of the top teams in all of 3A basketball in Wyoming over the past four years and we look forward to her progress in a Skylight uniform. "
Kreycik maintains a 3.8 grade point average. She is the daughter of Scott and Karen Kreycik. She joins standout Butte native Natalee Faupel and Northern's two signees so far this recruiting season.
