Irene M. Solum
Irene M. Solum, 81, of Havre, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at her residence of natural causes. Cremation has taken place, and private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
Irene was born on March 28, 1932, in Rattlesnake, Mont., to Edward and Letha (Sparks) Cuerth. Irene helped her mother and father ranching and working in the family store. She attended Hays Mission School until high school, when her father sent her and her sisters to Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, to live with their grandmother while they finished high school. Following her high school years, she returned to Harlem, where she worked in the bank. Irene married Glen Solum in 1954, and the couple made their home in Havre, where they raised their two sons. Irene loved her family, but she returned to work after her sons started school. She worked at Brown's Hardware as a bookkeeper for nearly 15 years before her retirement. She enjoyed ceramics, baking and flower gardening. Irene and Glen also loved to travel, going on cruises together.
Irene was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Solum; and her parents Edward and Letha Cuerth.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Glen Solum of Havre; her son, Dale E. (Linda) Solum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her granddaughter, Erica Solum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her brother, Edward Cuerth of Alberton, Mont.; her sisters. Anna Marie Parks of Eureka, Mont, Georgiann Schend of Havre, and Lois Moser of Boise, Idaho; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
