GREAT FALLS - The Box Elder Bears and Big Sandy Pioneers are going to go at it again. Of course, the Bears would have preferred to reach Saturday night's Northern C boys championship game, but instead, they'll have to settle for trying to force a challenge game Monday night. On Friday night in Great Falls, the Bears lost 62-53 in the semifinals. The Bears now face off against 9C rival Big Sandy at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The winner will move on to the consolation game against either Dutton-Brady or Great Falls Central Saturday night. The Outlaws face off against Highwood in Saturday night's chipper.
Randall Gardipee scored 14 points and Lonnie Plain Bull Jr. added 12 in what was just Box Elder's fourth loss this season.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers did their part Friday. Big Sandy played early Friday morning and defeated Denton 61-47 for the right to move on to Saturday morning's loser-out game. Trevor Lackner scored 17 points for the Pioneers, who like Box Elder, is trying to reach a Monday night challenge game. However, only one 9C will even have a chance at that after Saturday morning.
