Pony track teams head to Malta

The Havre High boys and girls track and field teams are looking to peak as the Central A Divisional meet draws near.

And the Blue Ponies will get plenty of chances to do so, including today's Malta Twilight Invitational. The Malta meet will commence this afternoon, and it's part of a busy week for the Blue Ponies. Havre competed in Belgrade last Saturday, and will travel to Whitefish for the A.R.M. Invitational this coming Saturday.

Today's meet in Malta will be a unique for the Ponies as it's one of the few track meets which take place on an old-school, clay track. It's a throwback to the old says of track and field and it's one the Ponies, and other teams look forward too each season.

The meet will feature a strong field as well, including Glasgow, Plentywood, possibly Glendive, as well as many area Class C schools, including the Chinook Sugarbeeters. So the meet should be a competitive one for both Havre High teams, especially with the host Malta squads both being very strong in the Class B ranks.

As for the Ponies, they continue to make strides and will use today's meet to keep moving forward. Obviously, Havre's strengths like in the jumps and pole vault on both sides, but HHS is also sound in the distance races and throws. Havre is continuing to develop sprinters and relay teams, and will use today's meet in Malta to continue that development.

Today's twilight meet in Malta gets underway at 2:30 p.m. The Ponies will also travel to Whitefish Saturday morning.
