Melanie Jenkins, who has been with the Box Elder School District for more than a decade, will become the new high school principal on July 1.
She will replace Darrin Hannum, who was elevated to superintendent after Robert Heppner retired, after serving 17 years with Box Elder.
Hannum said she was chosen by the Hiring Committee and the Box Elder School Board after "close competition" with other candidates.
"Mrs. Jenkins has excelled as the physical education instructor at Box Elder for over 10 years," the district said in a press release.
Over those 10 years, Jenkins has been volleyball coach, athletic director, 21st Century director and Carol White program director, as well as leading a highly successful Jump Rope for Heart program.
"As she transitions to her new position, Mrs. Jenkins is an integral part of the leadership team implementing Montana Behavioral Institute to the Box Elder Schools system," the district said.
