Havre High hosted its annual Lions Invite over the weekend, and several local teams made an appearance.
Saturday at the Havre Middle School track, Chinook, North Star, Big Sandy, Box Elder and Rocky Boy all competed.

Havre and Malta took the team titles, but the surrounding Hi-Line squads still had impressive showings. On the girls' side, Chinook was third with 75 points, while North Star was fourth with 52, and Big Sandy was seventh with 20. In the boys' field, Chinook was second with 102 points, while North Star was fifth with 34, Rocky Boy was sixth with 32, Box Elder was seventh with 24 and Big Sandy was tenth with two.
A lot of athletes were missing due to conflicting music schedules, but there were still a lot of big-time finishes.
The Chinook Sugarbeeters got points from Talya Johnson and Hannah Weber in the 300-meter hurdles. Johnson was second with a time of 54.0 and Weber was fourth with a time of 54.5. Weber also placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:35.9, while Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 30-4. Emily Dennis placed in three events to also help carry the load. Dennis was the No. 1 high jumper with a height of 4-8, while also finishing first in the triple jump with a distance of 32-7, and second in the long jump with a distance of 14-8. And not to be outdone, Tavin Schneider and Madison McCann also stepped up. Schneider finished first in the shot put (31-7) and second in the discus (88-0). And McCann was fifth in the long jump (13-11) and sixth in the triple jump (30-3).
The North Star Knights were paced by two athletes as well.
Tylynn Rettig won the long jump with a leap of 15-4, as well as the pole vault, clearing 8-6. But Rettig also finished the 100 in first place with a time of 13.0, as well as the triple jump in third, 30-11, and the 200 in second in 28.21. Sierra Yanny also finished the pole vault in second place, clearing 7-6.
Big Sandy finished the 4X400 relay in first place with a time of 4:38.3.
In boys action, Geoff Qualls had a great day for the Beeters. Qualls won the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.5 seconds. He also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 20-4, and the high jump in third with height of 5-8. Qualls finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 37-1.
Dylan Surber and Zach Molyneaux had standout performances, as they made up for a lot of the Beeter points. Surber finished first in the 100 (11-0), as well as first in the 400 (51.9), and first in the high jump (5-10). Molyneaux won the discus with a toss of 132-1, but also placed second in the 100 (11.2), second in the shot put (43-4), and fourth in the javelin (133-7).
The Chinook short relay finished in first with a time of 46.1. And Tanner Gomke placed sixth in the javelin (118-11) and sixth in the shot put (36-8), while Riley McCarthy was sixth in the 1600-meter (5:30), and Rob Klingaman was fifth in the javelin (127-5).
Cooper Spicher helped lead the North Star Knights by placing in four events. Spicher was first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.9 and second in the triple jump (39-1), third in the long jump (19-7) and sixth in the 100 (12.0). Gavin Spinler also placed sixth in the pole vault (8-6), while Quinn Spinler placed third in the 300 hurdles (44.8), and Jaxson Simonson placed sixth in the discus (103). The short relay team was sixth (51.0).
Rocky Boy earned points from Kyle Olson, who won the 3,200 with a time of 10:30.9 and the 1,600 with a time of 2:50, and finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:15.5. Olson also finished fourth in the 400 (57.1).
Will Ketchup led Box Elder. Ketchum was first in the 800 (2:11.3), second in the 1,600 (4:59.4), and third in the 3,200 in the 10:49.6.
Trevor Lackner earned a fifth- place finish for the Big Sandy Pioneers, running a 57.3 in the 400.
