The Havre High boys basketball team entered the season as a very young and inexperienced squad. But after consistent growth throughout the season, the Blue Ponies were able to shock some teams, as well as make a solid run at the Central A divisional tournament in Great Falls.
Havre High freshman Dane Warp, right, was named Central A First-Team All-Conference after leading the Blue Ponies in scoring this season. Warp was one of three Ponies to earn Central A honors for this season.
And though the season ended at the divisional tournament for the Ponies, a handful of players were honored with postseason accolades.
HHS senior Thurman Holdsclaw emerged from an All-State football season to be named Central A Honorable Mention in his final prep basketball season. Holdsclaw unfortunately had to miss a handful of games, but he did make the most of his time on the court, as he averaged nearly eight points and five rebounds per game. His defense was crucial for the Ponies as well. Holdsclaw was third on the HHS squad with 20 steals this season.
Rismon
Havre freshman Dane Warp also moved from a successful football season as the Ponies' signal caller into a successful basketball season as the Ponies most explosive and exciting player. In his first year of HHS basketball, Warp grabbed First-Team All-Conference honors. Warp led HHS with 29 steals, 59 assists, and six blocks. His more than 15 points per game also led the team, while he snagged more than five rebounds per game as well.
Kade Rismon was also a leader in his junior year for the Ponies night in and night out. Rismon earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, as he shot 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw-line for over 11 points per game. Rismon also led the team with nearly six rebounds per game as well as racking up 24 steals and 27 assists for the Ponies.
HHS finished the season with a record of 5-15, but have a lot of young talent returning, including Rismon and Warp who should continue to help carry the load moving forward.
