Three local teams took over the Havre Middle School track on Thursday, and some of the state's top talent was on display.
On Thursday, the Havre High Blue Pony track teams hosted a triangular meet with the Class C Chinook Sugarbeeters and North Star Knights. In girls action ,the Knights took the No. 1 spot with 62 points, narrowly defeating the second-place Ponies with 61. The Beeters were third with 52. And in the boys'field, it was the hosting Ponies who finished No. 1 with 77 points, as the Beeters were second with 59, and the Knights were third with 35.
Havre's Megan Erickson hands the baton to teammate Peyton Filius during a relay race in Thursday's triangular meet between the Blue Ponies, North Star Knights and Chinook Sugarbeeters at the Havre Middle School Track.
With the Knights edging the Ponies for the second time this season, Tylynn Rettig and Delainey Spcicher really stepped up to lead the way.
Rettig and Spicher both took first in two events each. Rettig jumped 14-5 in the long jump and ran a 13.31 in the 100-meter dash. And Spicher won both hurdle events, running a 17.41 in the 100 hurdles and a 53.29 in the 300 hurdles. The North Star 4x100 relay team also finished first with a time of 53.56.
But the Ponies and Beeters also had a handful of girls who stepped up and won multiple events.
Havre's Peyton Filius won the 200-meter with a time of 29.0, as well as the 400-meter with a time of 1:07. And Katie Christianson won the 800-meter with a time of 2:36, as well as the 1600-meter with a time of 5:45 for the Ponies. Chinook's Emily Dennis won the high jump, clearing 4-8, as well as the triple jump, leaping 32-8, while Britney Nelson threw 104-9 to win the discus and 32-6 to win the shot put.
HHS freshman Charlie Christianson sprints in the short relay Thursday at the HMS Track.
Also coming up big for the Beeters, Makhayla Farmer won the javelin with a throw of 100-0. And for the Ponies, Lacey Waid continues to be at the top of her game, winning the pole vault after clearing 9-0, while Haley Ohm won the 3200-meter with a time of 14:06, and the long relay team took first with a time of 4:41.
For the HHS boys, they too had multiple event winners.
Thurman Holdsclaw won two events to lead the way. Holdsclaw jumped over 39-10 in the triple jump, but also cleared 12-6 to win the pole vault. But Mark Klimas also won the 1600-meter (5:01), Charlie Christianson won the high jump (5-8), Kade Rismon won the javelin (140-6) and Jon Faber won the 200-meter (25.29). Dakota Christianson also stepped up and a big day for the Ponies, as he won the 400-meter with a time of 1:02.
Zach Molyneaux led the Beeters

But Geoff Qualls also won the long jump (19-3), while Dylan Surber won the 100-meter (11.35), Travis Roth won the 800-meter (2:20), Cody McCracken won the 3200-meter (12:50), and the short relay team won with a time of 46.55.
North Star's team numbers are down this season, but still have some individuals that can perform. Cooper Spicher won the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.16, while Quinn Spinler won the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.14. The long relay team also won with a time of 4:00.
It was a good outing for all the teams, but especially so for the hosting Ponies. They have showed steady improvement, and will look to earn a couple more team titles on Saturday as they host the annual Lions Invite.
Chinook's Zach Molyneaux throws the shot put during a traingular meet between the Havre Blue Ponies, the Sugarbeeters and the North Star Knights Thursday afternoon at the Havre Middle School Track.
