Ruby Owens, 78, of Havre, Mont., went home to be with Jesus Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. She was born Oct. 25, 1934, to Julius and Eva Crause.
She was born and raised in Wolf Point, Mont. She married Albert Sergent Dec. 26, 1952, in Wolf Point, of which six children were born. Ruby and Albert divorced in 1962. Shortly after that she moved to Malta, Mont., and was employed in the restaurant field. She met Billy Owens and they were married Feb. 11, 1977, adding Bill's two sons to the family. In 1979 she and Bill moved to Havre, where she was a health care provider. She also continued working in the restaurant field.
Ruby enjoyed gardening, embroidering, quilting, baking, cooking and raising and taking care of animals, including her last cat. Tiger was found without a mother, about 2 to 3 weeks old, and she bottle fed the kitten to health. She enjoyed putting puzzles together. Ruby really enjoyed going to the Havre Senior Citizens to play bingo and Wii bowling and just to visit with her friends, but most of all she loved being a mother and grandmother.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Billy Jo Owens, of 36 years; sisters, Barbara McFarlane of Great Falls, Mont., and Dorothy Crause of Potterville, Calif. ; her children, Robert (Connie) Holmes of Rogue River, Ore. ; David (Diane) Sergent of Great Falls, Mont., Carol (Bill) Dixon of Glasgow, Mont., Mickey Owens of Texas, Jerry (Noreen) Sergent of Williston, N.D., Betty (Curtis) Frizzell of Arp, Texas, Rickey Owens of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gloria Kountz (Joe Yeoman) of Glasgow, Mont. ; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Viola Marshall and Delphie Porterfield; brothers, Marlin Crause and Theodore Crause; and grandsons Albert Dixon and Rocky Sergent.
