Theft suspects arrested

The wave of thefts that has been washing over Havre may be over.

Havre Police announced this morning that they have arrested two suspects in the string of thefts that have seen everything from wallets to guns taken from mostly unlocked vehicles.

"On January 10, 2013, members of the Havre Police Department and the Tri-Agency Task Force served warrants at two residences within the city limits, " Havre Police Chief Kirk Fitch said in an email this morning. "As a result of the warrants, one male juvenile age 17 and one male juvenile, age 14, were arrested. "

The two were arrested on charges including felony counts of theft from a motor vehicle, accountability and theft — all others; and misdemeanor counts of trespassing, and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

"Along with charging the suspects with the listed crimes, numerous items which had been stolen were recovered, including at least one firearm, " Fitch said. "The entire investigation is still ongoing.

"Additionally, due to the large amount of items recovered, it will take detectives a few days to go through reports to match up the property found with the victims. The department is doing all it can to ensure the victims get their property returned as soon as practicable. "

Fitch thanked the officers and the community for the collaboration that led to these arrests.

"Havre police detectives and patrol officers are to (be) commended for their efforts in solving these crimes, " Fitch said. "This team effort and information, relayed by some alert citizens, led members of the department to the listed suspects. "
