State A Wrestling Update: Ponies get two individual titles to go with coveted team title

Updated at 6:44 p.m.: The Class A state wrestling tournament isn't quite over, but it is for the Havre High wrestling team. With four weight classes still to be contested, the Blue Ponies have the Class A team title locked up with 229.5 points. In fact, Havre had the team title put away before the finals round began.

In the finals, the Ponies saw senior 189-pounder Grant Pattison defeat Hardin's Steven Keetan 3-0 for the state championship, Pattison's first. Meanwhile, Grayson Brenna, who lost the 98-pound title a year ago, atoned on Saturday by winning the 105-pound state championship. Brenna defeated Sidney's Ethan Graves 9-2. Junior Tyler Adams was beaten by Hardin's Joe Murdock by a 10-3 decision in the championship match, while freshman Keegan Kennelly was pinned by Butte Central's Clay Stillwagon in the 98-pound championship.

The state title is Havre's first since 2010, and the eighth overall for HHS head coach Scott Filius. The Ponies finished third in 2012 and second in 2011. Before that, they won four consecutive state championships, from 2007-2010.

Updated at 2:50 p.m. Saturday: The Havre High wrestling team is on its way to capturing its third state championship in the last five years. Following the consolation finals Saturday afternoon in Billings, Havre has scored 225.5 points, which puts the Ponies 30 points ahead of Sidney heading in to the finals, which start at 4 p.m.
