The Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak grind to a halt at the hands of the nationally-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints Saturday night in Helena. The Skylights lost to the Saints 56-44, falling to 7-5 in the Frontier Conference.
Northern only trailed Carroll 23-22 at halftime, but the Saints went on a 13-3 run. MSU-N chopped the lead down to one point again late in the half, but Carroll finished strong, making it a season sweep of the Skylights. The Skylights (15-9) will return home to face UM-Western Thursday night and Westminster College on Saturday.
Saturday night also saw the Montana State University-Northern men fall behind Carroll big early on, but come back to beat the Saints 68-61 in Helena. The win gave Northern its first road sweep of the year in the Frontier Conference, and helped MSU-N stay atop the Frontier standings at 9-3.
Carroll came into the contest 0-11 in conference play, but the Saints jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Northern managed to close the gap to two points at halftime, but the Lights never led until Alfie miller buried a 3-pointer with 14 minutes left. From there, the team's changed leads eight times, but MSU-N made big plays in the final two minutes, and also sank eight free throws down the stretch to pull away.
Northern is now 21-5 overall and will face UM-Western Thursday night in Havre.
