A Rocky Boy man was sentenced this week in federal District Court in Great Falls to more than three years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution for a car crash that killed a 44-year-old woman.
Ryan James Parker, 26, previously pleaded guilty to the charge.
The 2006 Pontiac Parker was driving June 4 on Lower Box Elder Road struck the rear end of the 2003 Dodge Stratus in which Mary Rose Lamere was riding at about 12:45 a.m. The Dodge went off the road as a result of the collision, rolling and partially ejecting Lamere from the window. She died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Fellow passenger in the Dodge Frank Stiffarm was injured and taken to the hospital, while driver William Newton was not injured.
Parker was not injured in the crash.
Lamere was the only person involved in the crash who was not wearing a seat belt.
Judge Sam E. Haddon sentenced Parker to 37 months in prison, imposed a $100 special assessment, and ordered him to pay $3,998 in restitution.
According the press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, a breathalyzer showed Parker's blood alcohol concentration was .25 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent.
The airbag monitor showed Parker's Pontiac was moving at 91 mph five seconds before the crash and 63 mph two seconds before the crash, in a 35 mph zone, the release said.
