Locals shine at Top 10 Meet

The annual Top Ten track meet in Glasgow brings in talent from all over the area, and if an athlete can perform well, they could set themselves up for a very successful post season run.

On Wednesday evening in Glasgow, the Central A Blue Ponies earned several top finishes.

Thurman Holdsclaw had an especially dominating afternoon for the HHS boys team. Competing in the pole vault and triple jump, Holdsclaw grabbed two No. 1 finishes. He cleared 12-6 in the pole vault, and jumped 41-6 in the triple jump. Thomas Gruber also had a nice showing in the pole vault, also clearing for 12-6 for a second place finish.

Marc Klimas and Ryne Antley also placed for the boys team. Klimas earned a third place finish in the 3,200 meters (10:32.34), while Antley finished the javelin in fifth place.

The HHS girls also got a handful of top finishers.

Peyton Filius finished the 800 in second place (28.86), while Katie Christianson also ran the 3,200 in 12:02, also good enough for second place. Martha Stocker also threw the shot put 36-0, good enough for third place, while Haley Ohm finished the 1,600-meter in fourth place (6.04.79), and Larissa Price finished the 1,600-meter in fifth place. Megan Erickson also placed sixth in the 800-meter and Lacey Waid finished the pole vault in fourth place, clearing 9-6.

The 4x400 relay team also placed third, as Skylar Vukasin, Rachel David, Filius and Erickson ran a 4:26.

All in all, it was great outing for the Ponies. They saw a lot of outstanding times and marks, but more importantly they continued to see improvement.

Holdsclaw earned a personal best in the triple jump, as did Filius and Erickson in the 800. Christianson also shaved 30 seconds off of her 3,200 time, while Stocker's throw in the shot put beat her previous personal best by three feet. The relay team also earned a personal best by 10 seconds.

It isn't time for the Ponies to peak just yet, but if the Ponies can continue to get better and peak this post season, the Ponies should continue see similar results through the divisional and state meets.

But athletes from all over the Hi-Line also had a pretty solid outing.

Chinook was well represented by Zack Molyneaux, Dillon Surber, and Geoff Qualls. Molyneaux finished the 100 in second place (11.41), the shot put in second place (46-6), and the discus in third place (142-7). And Surber finished the 400 in second place (52.84), and the 200-meter in third place (23.9), while Qualls finished the 300 hurdles in second place (52.84).

Hannah Weber, Emily Dennis, and Britney Nelson also performed well for the Beeter girls. Weber finished the 800 in fourth place (2:34.29), while Dennis finished the triple jump in third place (34-2), and Nelson finished the discus in fourth place (107-2).

Cody Kirkaldie also finished the 3,200 in fourth place, running an 11:08.39 for Hays-Lode Pole.
