While some ice fishing fans prepared to head out to Fresno this weekend, it was the Tri-Agency Task Force that made a big catch on Friday, on a train.
According to a task force press release, agents had heard about two passengers, Chaidon Kang and Sitha Puth, riding the Friday afternoon Amtrak train from Tacoma, Wash., to Minneapolis, where Puth had an outstanding warrant.
The task force met with the two while the train was stopped in Havre and arrested Puth on a charge of violating probation.
Then the arrest got interesting.
"The TATF K-9 alerted to the compartment that Puth and Kang were using, " the release says. "A search of the compartment lead to the seizure of two duffle bags containing approximately 5 pounds of marijuana. "
The cuffs were then slapped on Kang and another charge on Puth.
Both are in the Hill County Detention Center this morning. Both are held on felony charges of possession with intent to distribute, $50,000 bond and an immigration charge. Puth still has his Minnesota-based probation violation, for another $50,000 bond, bringing his total up to a rare six figures.
The release says this is the second largest seizure at Havre's Amtrak station, after an arrest last Halloween of a 23-year-old woman travelling from Portland, Ore. to New York City with 17 pounds of marijuana.
