Mary Travis Forman

Because she valued friendship so highly, Mary Travis Forman was one of the richest women in the world. If you were her friend ever, you were her friend forever, solid silver sterling. In September she was in Great Falls, Mont., visiting her 1954 freshman roommate from the University of Montana.

She made friends as her spouse's career led them from Montana to Michigan, Wyoming, Montana again, Washington, Texas and back to Washington. Among that intimate, large circle were Theta and P. E.O. sisters, teachers, neighbors, doctors, nurses, store clerks, the mail man and every new mother and baby she met.

Born July 6, 1936, in Havre, Mont., to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Travis, Mary graduated from Havre High School in 1954. Her father was an employee of the Havre Daily News. Mary graduated from UM with a degree in French and Russian and married Bernard Kim Forman two weeks later on Dec. 29, 1957.

Cancer, found in April 1997, was removed but returned in 2005 and was made worse by a gluten allergy, Mary's only intolerance. She lived with her disease with courage and grace until Dec. 27.

Survivors include her husband; their son, John; daughters, Betsy and Susan; eight grandchildren; and a brother and sister.

Services are set for the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Magnolia, on Jan. 7 at 11 a. m. Memorials may be made to World Vision, P.O. Box 70395, Tacoma, WA 98481-0395.
