The Montana State University-Northern Lights had a chance to come all the way back from a 21-point deficit against nationally-ranked Montana Tech Saturday afternoon in Butte. But it wasn't to be. With under a minute left and the Lights down by eight points, Northern's Derek lear was intercepted in Tech territory, sealing a 21-13 win for the Orediggers.
MSU-N trailed 21-3 in the first half, and 21-6 at halftime. From there, the Northern defense held Tech scoreless the entire second half, but Tech's defense was also up to the task. The win was Tech's seventh straight as the Diggers' improved to 7-1 in the Frontier Conference and beat Northern for the first time since September of 2010. The Lights fell to 2-6 and have lost three straight games.
MSU-N will close out its home schedule next Saturday when it takes on Dickinson State at Blue Pony Stadium.
