Gunfire exchanged in Box Elder Monday

Gunfire was exchanged in Box Elder Monday afternoon, ending with an arrest, pending charges, and a continuing investigation.

According to a press release from the Hill County Sheriff's Office this morning, a call came in at 2:57 p. m. Monday reporting "two males were exchanging gunfire outside a Box Elder business. "

Sheriff's deputies worked with Chippewa Cree Tribal Police and the Montana Highway Patrol to secure the area. Box Elder school "was locked down until the situation was resolved. "

No one was injured.

After interviewing witnesses "a 19-year-old Box Elder man was arrested without incident, " and is being held pending formal charges.

Undersheriff Jamieson Ross said the office was not releasing any more specifics, though the sheriff's office call log shows a call coming from a "manager at Jitterbugs" at 2:57 p. m.

Jitterbugs is a tavern on Highway 87, not far from the Box Elder school.

The Hill County Detention Center's daily population list shows only one person brought in Monday, a male named Garrison Henderson being held on pending "attempted deliberate homicide" felony charges.

Ross refused to say if Henderson was the person involved in the Box Elder incident.

Messages left for Hill County Attorney Gina Dahl were not returned by deadline this morning.
