Donald Leroy Meiwald

Donald Leroy Meiwald, 81, died Sept. 10, 2012, at his home of natural causes. Cremation has taken place, and his memorial service will be 10 a. m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Rocky Boy Catholic Church, with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Boy Veterans Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Donald was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Havre, Mont., to Roy and Marian (Griffin) Meiwald. He grew up in the Missouri River Breaks and raised horses with Steve and Merle Boyce. He married Lucy Meiwald in 1971, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Together they made their home in Rocky Boy. The family traveled a lot with Donald's work as a pipefitter. He worked for many companies with his pipefitting skills working on turn-arounds. Don worked for seven years in Vietnam for Morrison-Knudson Construction. That experience had a lifelong effect on Don, and Vietnam felt like it was his second home. Donald was a cowboy at heart. He loved his animals, horses, dogs and his cows. He always said that he could tell his cows anything and they wouldn't repeat it.

He was a member of the pipefitters union, the American Legion and a 40-year member of the Havre Eagles. He was a hard worker, but his heart was always at home with his animals. He and Lucy owned the D&L bar for many years, and they loved to go out and have a nice dinner together. Donald also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy Meiwald; and his brothers, Fred Meiwald and Irvin Meiwald.

Donald is survived by his son, Robert Meiwald of New Town, N.D. ; one brother, Frank (Audrey) Meiwald of Kalispell, Mont. ; one grandson, Robert Meiwald Jr. ; and five granddaughters, Jessica, Leslie, Tiffany, Toni and Aubrey.
