The key to winning a general election is to pick the best candidate in the primary election. That means in Montana, with lots of options for governor candidates, voters need to be careful. Talking points are important, but voters need to look deeper than that before casting their votes.
Here are some of the biggest issues people need to consider: Economic plan. Who has the best policy to lead Montana out of recession to prosperity? Record. Who has the best voting record, and who carried important legislation? Experience and leadership. Who has been a good leader and has the knowledge to govern the state well? Youth. Who has the ability to engage and energize young people and make them care about the future of Montana? Electability. Who can communicate their message effectively, get people to the polls, and actually win the general election?
The candidates' choices for lieutenant governors also are a factor. Stapleton chose Bob Keenan, Hill chose Jon Sonju, Miller chose Bill Gallagher, and Livingstone chose Ryan Zinke.
There are other people running for governor, but those are the main tickets. Personally, I like Stapleton/Keenan the most and think if voters investigate the candidates they'll agree with me, but I'll leave it up to people to individually research these issues and draw their own conclusions.
