Editor owes apology to Great Falls

Editor:

This is in response to an article written by Managing Editor John Kelleher of the Havre Daily News and printed on the front page on Nov. 16 ("New Little Shell leader: Dispute finally over, future is bright").

The story was about the future of the Little Shell Tribe under their new leader Gerald Gray. In the article he mentioned Little Shell's new Cultural Center on "Hill 57," which is an area north of Great Falls. The story went on to explain that this was also the area that the Little Shell were "forced" (yes I said forced — word for word in the article) by the "white Great Falls residents."

Being an ex-"white Great Falls resident," — I moved to Havre in 1965 — I doubt that statement is accurate, and it is definitely racist.

I believe Managing Editor John Kelleher, not only needs to print a retraction for that statement, but owes the "white Great Falls residents" a huge apology.

The Little Shell may or may not have been forced to live on "Hill 57" for other reasons or circumstances, but I'm pretty sure that they were not forced to live there by the "white Great Falls residents."
