Chinook kicks off the Christmas season

After Thanksgiving officially begins the holidays, Chinook will welcome the season for most of Friday.

The 27th Annual Parade of Lights and Christmas Stroll will be joined for a second year by Chinook's Festival of Trees in lighting up downtown Chinook, to bring the community together, celebrate the holidays and raise some money for local organizations.

Activities begin at 1 p. m. Friday, with holiday music being played downtown as the Chinook Chamber of Commerce encourages people to stroll downtown and maybe do some Christmas shopping at the shops lining Indiana Street.

People who would rather stay indoors can head to the Blaine County Library's Meeting Room, where the Chamber is holding this year's Festival of Trees.

From 1 to 7 p. m., the public is invited to peruse the collection of Christmas trees and wreaths that have been decorated and donated by local organizations or individuals. Bids can be placed in that time through a silent auction.

All proceeds from the Festival will be split among the Chinook Food Bank, ambulance provider Blaine 1 Inc. and the Garden Club.

Santa will be making a stop by the Wells Fargo bank to take photos from 2 to 4 p. m.

The Blaine County Library will hold a book sale from 1 p. m. to 6 p. m.

And the evening will be capped by the annual Parade of Lights at 6 p. m.
