Pauline Barbara Theresa Burtness Kvamme

Pauline Barbara Theresa Burtness Kvamme, 82, died Nov. 1, 2012, with her husband by her side in Billings, Mont.

A local family memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Seeley Lake, Mont., the Rev. Jean Hurd officiating.

Pauline was born on Dec. 14, 1929, to Adolph and Selma Burtness in Minneapolis, Minn. Her father and mother came from the Elbow Lake area of Minnesota.

She grew up in Minneapolis and enjoyed archery and ice skating, and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She attended business college, worked as a telephone operator and as Sunday school superintendent at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she met and married Rodney Kvamme.

Together they began their journey in Sioux City, Iowa, where they interned in the Lutheran church, followed by time in Great Falls, Mont., and Sacramento Calif., while Rodney served in the Air Force. After falling in love with Montana, they served congregations in Kalispell and Havre before retiring together in Seeley Lake, Mont., and then served in a number of congregations in western Montana.

She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bonner, belonged to the Seeley Lake Historical Society and worked in numerous charity and community events as well as enjoying the out-of-doors and especially Glacier National Park.

Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, reading and family genealogy. She enjoyed traveling internationally, as well as visiting relatives and family all over the country.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Rodney; three sons and their spouses, Paul, John and Phil Kvamme; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
