Art was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Glendive, the son of John and Eva (Schock) Neiffer. He was raised and received his early education in Marsh, Mont., and completed his education in Glendive schools. In 1940, Art and his family moved to a farm 13 ½ miles southwest of Glendive on the Buffalo Rapids Project. Art and his family worked on the family farm for many years. He later met and married Cora Lee Swart on July 28, 1962, in Tulsa, Okla. They stayed on the family farm, raising their children until moving into Glendive in 1986. Art became semi-retired and occupied his time in the sales industry. When Art retired he had a "hobby farm" where he would raise garden vegetables. Art had the distinction of having a "green thumb" and could grow anything in any type of soil. He would often take the things that he grew and sell them at the local farmers market. He loved watching politics on television and discussing politics. He enjoyed coffee with the boys at Subway and dining at the Glendive Senior Citizens Center.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lee, in 2010; one son, Jon in 2010; three brothers, John "Johnnie" Jr., Jacob and August; and four sisters, Hilda, Bertha, Lydia and Marie.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Neiffer and his wife Brenda of Havre, Mont., and Stuart Neiffer of Glendive; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Garret, Anthony and Jonathan Jr. ; one sister, Matilda "Tillie" Gaub of Missoula, Mont. ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
