Construction began Monday on 16th Avenue West and 11th Street West from First Avenue to Washington Avenue (noted in red). Construction between 16th Avenue West and Washington Avenue, noted in blue, will begin Friday. The entire stretch is expected to be completed by June 28.
The Montana Department of Transportation both announced and began its construction along 10th and 11th streets by Montana State University-Northern and through Highland Park on Monday.
According to a press release from Kalispell-based construction company, LHC, Inc., Monday marked the beginning of two of the three phases of the construction to fix one of Havre's holeyest roads.
The first phase has closed traffic between 1st Avenue and Washington Avenue. The closure will not affect the Northern entrance on 1st Avenue that leads to the Student Union Building, only the other entrance farther up 10th Street that leads to Cowan Hall.
The second phase has closed traffic on 16th Avenue to through traffic, the north-south road by Havre Middle School and the U. S. Border Patrol station. Local traffic will be accommodated.
The third phase won't begin until Friday, when 11th Street West will be narrowed to one lane between the other two construction areas, from Washington Avenue to 16th Avenue.
The press release says the construction crews will work 12-hours each day, from 7 a. m. to 7 p. m. Monday through Friday
They expect the construction to be wrapped up by Sept. 28.
