so saw some losses.

On Tuesday, the 9C Turner Tornadoes got things started with a 55-48 loss to the Havre High freshman team. The loss doesn't hurt the Tornadoes in conference standings, but the Tornadoes did see some good success against the young Ponies.

This is as competitive as the Tornadoes have been all season, losing by just seven points. And Turner was led by Levi Humphreys with 12 points and Lucas Reed with 11.

Action resumed on Thursday with another game, but once again the Tornadoes suffered a loss. This time it was the 9C Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds taking down Turner 81-32 in conference play.

In the crushing win, H-LP was led by five double digit scorers. Trent Kirkaldie scored a game high 24, while Bruce Denny followed with 14, Floyd McCronnell followed with 12 and Cyrus Cole finished with 10.

Dusty Mohar led the Tornadoes with eight points.

On Friday, the 9C Box Elder Bears grabbed a win over Sunburst, winning 69-44 in non league play.

The Bears led by just four points after the first quarter, but steadily built the gap with double digit scoring in every quarter. The Bears put the finishing touches on the Refiners with 30 points in the final frame, led by the 16 points of Randall Gardipee. Lonnie Plain Bull added 14, and Jesse Ramos added 12.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters also played on Friday as they attempt to move up the 9C ranks. The Beeters defeated Geraldine 68-52 in non conference play.

Geraldine led the Beeters 23-13 after the first eight minutes, but the Beeters roared from behind. Chinook Posted 20 points in the second quarter, 15 in the third and 20 more in the fourth. Chinook also held Geraldine to just five fourth quarter points on route to a win.

Brandon Riphenburg led the Beeters with 24 points while Zach Molyneaux finished the game with 16. Scott Schmitt also finished with 12.

The league leading 9C Big Sandy Pioneers also got a win on Friday, coming at the hands of the Thunderbirds in league play. The Pioneers defeated the Thunderbirds 69-42 to stay undefeated in conference play.

After a tight first quarter, the Pioneers cruised over the Thunderbirds with relative ease, leading 23-15 at intermission and eventually winning by 27 points. Trevor Lackner with 16 points and Zac Leader with 14 led big Sandy. Nolan Werk's 12 points led the Thunderbirds.

North Star wasn't one of the lucky ones on Friday. The 9C Knights were defeated 56-38 by Denton.

The Knights put up a fight early, but couldn't muster the win after taking a 16-12 lead early. Karston Donoven and Shelby Sizemore both led the Knights with nine points each.

In Class 2B action, the Harlem Wildcats got a tight, 64-61 conference win over Wolf Point on Friday.

A 16 point first quarter gave the Wildcats an early lead, but a 21 point second quarter from the Wolves kept Harlem from really running away. And while the Wolves put up a fight, 33, second half points by the Wildcats gave Harlem the slight edge.

Skyer Speakthunder grabbed 25 points to led Harlem, while Bud Buck and Brandon Hammond both scored 14 points each.

The 10C Chester/J-I Hawks also escaped with a close win on Friday. In conference play, the Hawks defeated heart Butte 46-41 in overtime.

C/J-I held a 35-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Warriors tracked down the Hawks with a 9-4 fourth. However, overtime went in favor of the Hawks, as they outscored the Warriors 7-2 for the win.

The Hawks scoring efforts were led by Lane Harmon, with 20 points. Jordan Oraw, Dustin Roman and Jeff Wanken all scored seven points each.

Wrapping up Friday's action, the 1B Rocky Boy Stars fell in conference play. The Conrad Cowboys defeated the Stars 47-40.

A slow start did it in for the Stars. They led 9-8 after one quarter of play, but scored just nine more in the second, while the Cowboys put up 23. The Stars were never able to bounce back, as the Stars leading scorer was Darrion LaFromboise with 11 points. Dusty Standing Rock added 10.

Saturday wasn't a good day for the Stars either, as they fell 76-62 to Choteau in yet another league game.

This time around the Stars battled back with 25 fourth quarter points, but couldn't come from behind for the win. Dusty Standing Rock led the Stars with 18 points and Bubby Gopher added 13.

The Wildcats weren't fortunate enough to get a win on Saturday either. In non league play, Plentywood defeated the Wildcats 47-46 in a very tight matchup.

Harlem fell behind early, but was never out of contention. Trailing by three after the first eight minutes, the Wildcats climbed within two at the break. And outscoring the opposition 16-15 in the second half left the Wildcats just shy of a victory.

Harlem was led by Speakthunder with 16 points. Hammond and Buck added 10 points each.

In more 9C action, the Bears took down the Tornadoes 64-30.

The Bears trampled the Tornadoes, and were led by Skyler Parisian with 13 points. Brandon Belgrade and Gardipee both scored nine each as well. For Turner, their efforts were led by Mohar's 11.

Big Sandy and North Star also faced on off on Saturday in 9C play, and it was the Pioneers who came away with the 54-53 win. The Pioneers fell behind early, but utilized a 20 point second quarter to escape with the win.

Jessie Bailey grabbed 19 points for Big Sandy, and Lackner added 11, while Leader added 10. And for North Star, they were led by Jordy Donoven with 24 points.

Wrapping up the week's play, the Hawks defeated the Beeters 42-32 in Class C action. Chinook trialed by just one point early, but Chester/J-I slowly crawled away with 29 second half points.

The Hawks were led by Harmon with 16 points, while the Beeters were led by Tilleman with 11.

Pony JV's fall to Browning at home

By Blaine Grisak

Last Friday the Havre Blue Pony Boys JV basketball team played the Browning Indians. Unfortunately Friday the 13th was an unucky day for the Ponies as they lost 60-80.

The Ponies were winning at the end of the 1st quarter 13-12 and were up 22-14 early in the second quarter. From that point on it was all Browning. Browning was up 30-23 at halftime never looked back.

Ramsey Drew led the Ponies in scoring with 15 total points and Spencer Morkid lead the team with only three rebounds, something the Ponies struggled with all afternoon.
