Hi-Line Football Roundup: Hawks, Beeters roll

With the end of the season just around the corner, some local football teams are fighting for postseason seeding, while others are still trying to salvage their seasons.

On Friday in Plentywood, the Harlem attempted to get back into the win column. But when it was all said and done, it was Plentywood that defeated the Class B Wildcats 42-14. The Wildcats dropped to 1-6.

Harlem got scores from Stanley Irvine and Seth Adams. Irvine had a 70-yard run for a TD, while Adams earned a 26-yard run and score. Harlem will host Shelby on Wednesday.

Chinook 63, Fort Benton 18

The No. 5 Chinook Sugarbeeters earned a very important win in Class C 8-Man action on Friday. Hosting the conference rival Fort Benton Longhorns, the Beeters won 63-18, holding down the second place position, while remaining on the heels of the first place Chester/J-I Hawks.

Zac Molyneaux had another career day for the Beeters. Molyneaux scored on a 24-yard pass from Scott Schmitt, and on a seven-yard jaunt, but also tossed three touchdown passes, including two to Geoff Qualls and one to Dylan Surber. Surber also scored on a TD pass from Ian McIntosh, while McIntosh totaled three touchdown passes on the evening. Derek Bell also rushed for a 23-yard score, while the Chinook defense earned a safety.

The Beeters improved to 7-1 in the conference and will travel to Belt on Wednesday.

Chester-J/I 42, Great Falls Central 22

The Northern C 8-Man Chester/J-I Hawks also earned a big time win on Friday, as they maintained the No. 1 spot in the division. The No. 2 Hawks defeated Great Falls Central (tied for second in the division before the loss) 42-22, improving to 8-0 in league play.

Erik Kelly rushed for 229 yard for the Hawks, and got into the end zone on two different occasions. Dustin Romain also ran for two touchdowns and threw a TD pass for the Hawks. And on defense, Jordan Oraw had 12 tackles and Cody Ramberg had nine.

Tonight the Hawks will get take the field against visiting Cascade at 7 p.m. in Chester.

Wibaux 56, Hays-Lodge Pole 16

Action continued on Saturday, but it wasn't kind to the Class C 8-Man Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds at home. Wibaux defeated the Thunderbirds 56-16 as they dropped to 0-8 on the season.

Valier 55, Box Elder 15

The Class C 6-Man Box Elder Bears also had a rough outing on Saturday, as they continue limp through the season. Playing at home in Box Elder, Valier defeated the Bears 55-15 as the Bears dropped to 0-7 on the season.

The Bears went scoreless through the first half, but grabbed a safety in the third quarter and two touchdown passes from Brandon The Boy in the fourth quarter. The Boy connected with Jake Jones and Will Ketchum.

Tonight the Bears will travel to take on Heart Butte.

Stanford-Geyser 67, North Star 13

Also playing on Saturday, things didn't get any better for the Class C 6-Man North Star Knights. The Knights dropped to 3-4 as Stanford-Geyser defeated the nights 67-13.

Cooper Spicher was the only bright spot for the Knights. Spicher scored on a 55-yard kick return early, keeping North Star in the game as the trailed 14-6. But Stanford-Geyser scored seven unanswered TD's before Spicher got into the end zone for the second and only other time. Spicher scored on a 14-yard run.

Tonight the Knights will travel to take on Valier.

Big Sandy 70, Heart Butte 6

The Big Sandy Pioneers got the Northern C 6-Man conference back on track with a big time win on Saturday. The Pioneers have suffered just one loss this season, and improved to 7-1 with a dominating 70-6 win over Heart Butte.

Trevor Lackner contributed on five touchdowns for the Pioneers, as he passed for two scores, and rushed for three more. His passing scores went for 11 and 42-yards, both to Lane Martin. And Lackner's rushing TD's came from 25, 52, and eight-yards out. Martin also had three scores, adding a touchdown on a 30-yard run.

Jessey Bailey also had two scores, while Cody Bailey had one score for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will host Geraldine/Highwood on Wednesday.
