Larry Sapp

Larry Sapp, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Northern Montana Hospital, of natural causes. Viewing will be Friday, Nov. 16, from 7 to 9 p. m., at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. His memorial service will be 10 a. m. Monday, Nov. 19, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles immediately after the service. Memorial contributions in Larry's honor may be made to the Eagles Aerie of Havre. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Larry was born Aug. 27, 1932, to Edward and Margaret (Fahey) Sapp. His family farmed out of Gildford and North Havre and later moved into Havre. Larry continued school in Havre at Havre Central and graduated from Havre High School. He then completed two years of college at Northern Montana College on a basketball scholarship, studying business administration. He then went to Gonzaga University on a basketball scholarship but had his college career cut short due to a serious car accident. In early adulthood, Larry worked at Buttery's Department Store and the Department of Revenue; he was also a fireman, sold insurance and was a realtor. He spent most of his career as a banker which was the most fulfilling to him. He married Marjorie Ward on June 26, 1953, in Westby, Mont. Together they made their home in Havre and began their family. Larry loved sports and enjoyed basketball, baseball, softball, bowling, golf and football as well as fishing and hunting.

He was an active member in many organizations which included ROTC, Eagles, Elks, Optimist Club, Toastmasters, Red Cross, Big Sky Girl Scouts, Rotary Club and the Blue Pony Booster Club. Larry was the youngest of a large family of seven sisters and three brothers. He was proud of his nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was affectionately known as Poppy and would often be seen holding young babies on his chest sound asleep. Retirement allowed Larry to enjoy more bowling, golf, fishing and coffee with his friends. Larry and Marjorie were able to travel to Arizona each winter for a vacation for a number of years. He continued to count money and do deposits for the Eagles and the Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and one brother.

Larry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie "Marge" Sapp of Havre; his two daughters, Beth (Dan) Brown of Billings, Mont., and Dana (Scott) Seidel of Havre; his son, Steven (Chris) Sapp of Havre; two brothers, Edwin Sapp of Great Falls, Montana and Henry (Juliette) Sapp of Havre; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
