For the seocnd straight week, the final seconds of a game were unkind to the Montana State University-Northern football team. The Lights gave up 14 fourth-quarter points, including a three-yard touchdown pass with :22 left in the contest as the Dickinson State Blue Hawks shocked the Lights 21-20 Saturday in Dickinson, N.D. The loss dropped Northern to a disappointing 0-3 start to the 2012 Frontier Conference season.
The Lights went ahead 7-0 in the first quarter on a Stephen Silva touchdown, but once again, MSU-N's offense struggled the rest of the way. DSU scored midway through the second period, leaving the game tied 7-7 at halftime. In the second half, Northern scored on back-to-back possessions, but led only 20-7 after a blocked PAT by the Blue Hawks. DSU then rallied, scoring twice in the final eight minutes to win their first Frontier Conference game in school history.
The 0-3 Lights now return home, still in search of their first win after being picked to finish second in the Frontier preseason. Northern takes on UM-Western this Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium.
