Ice Hawks split with Bulls on home ice

This past weekend the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team played twice against the Billings Bulls at the Havre Ice Dome. And the Ice Hawks earned a he home split.

The Ice Hawks not only lost the first game on Saturday, but also got shut out. The Ice Hawks lost 4-0. But Sunday's game was a much different story as Havre won 4-3, and came out with a purpose and quick feet according to head coach Tyler Boyce.

The first game was a rough one for the Ice Hawks. The Ice Hawks had 27 shots on goal and were 0-for-8 on the power play with two of even being a two-man advantage. Goalie Joey DeVries recorded 33 saves on the night.

The second game on Sunday morning was very different.

The Ice Hawks played more physical and were much quicker on the ice. Timmy Welch gave the Ice Hawks a 1-0 lead late in the first period to get things going for the Ice Hawks. The Ice Hawks kept the pressure on the Bulls, taking advantage of the power play, going 3-9 on the day. Jon Stoner, Chase Rolf, and Ethan Hettinger each had a power-play goal. Although Nate Welch didn't score, he recorded three important assists. Also, DeVries recorded 29 saves and had many key saves in the final minutes of the third period while the Ice Hawks had a slim one-goal lead.

The Ice Hawks will be back at home on Feb. 24 and 25 to make up games with Bozeman.
