Hi-Line Darts and Laurels

Laurel —Lots of good things are happening at Montana State University-Northern, not the least of which is the renovation of the Student Union Building dining hall. The aim of the project is to make the service more amenable to students, who, after all, are what the place is all about.

Dart — People who say there is nothing to do on the Hi-Line are dead wrong. Look at some the events taking place this weekend. The Blaine County Fair is under way. The First Baptist Church of Havre is celebrating its 100th birthday with festivities. Relay for Life will be held at Havre High School. "The Curious Savage" will be performed by Montana Actors' Theatre Youth Program. And we bet we are missing some.

Laurel — Delores Welter is like many, many people on the Hi-Line. She has done lots of community work. In her case, she did decades of work for the Rebekahs, and she never expected any recognition for it. But she did get recognition. She received the Meritorious Award at the state Rebekahs convention. Congratulations to her.

Laurel — One of the most thankless jobs is fighting fires, especially when it's hot, especially when its a massive fire. That's what firefighters have been doing in putting out the massive forest fires that have taken place throughout Montana recently. Some parts of the state have banned outdoor fires because of the heat and dry conditions. On the Hi-Line, people are still allowed to start fires, but are urged to be extremely careful. That is very wise advice. Firefighters are worn out.
