Elsie Leah Geboe "Golden Eagle Woman, " 72, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2012, at her home in Rocky Boy, Mont., of natural causes.
Her wake service will begin this afternoon and continue through to Tuesday, with her funeral Mass 10 a. m. Tuesday, all at Rocky Boy Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Belcourt/Geboe Family Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
Elsie was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Fort Belknap, Mont., to Levi and Cecelia Emma (Parker) Belcourt. She attended Pierre Boarding School and Haskell Boarding School, graduating from Haskell College in Lawrence, Kan., in 1958. She married Robert "Bob" Geboe Jr. in 1958 in Casper, Wyo. Together they made their home in Rocky Boy beginning in 1970 and lived there ever since. Elsie worked at the Wyoming National Bank, Great Plains Life Insurance, Rocky Boy Schools, the Chippewa Cree Tribe and Stone Child College in the accounting departments.
Elsie was a talented woman who enjoyed sewing, horse racing, bowling and collecting tea pots. She made Indian dolls, Pendleton jackets, baby blankets and Indian outfits. She was a member of the Rocky Boy Election Board, the Rocky Boy Women's Auxiliary, the Rocky Boy Pow-Wow Committee, American Indian Higher Education Consortium and her bowling league.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert "Bob" Geboe; daughter, Rhonda Geboe, sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Nagel and Tammy Frost; three brothers, Gerald "Chief" Belcourt, Duane Belcourt and Levi "Gene" Belcourt; one granddaughter, Almeda Geboe; and her grandson, Kyle Brockie Jr.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Pamela Geboe Doney of Hays, Mont., Carla Geboe of Rocky Boy, Jacqueline (Crawford) White of Fort Washakie, Wyo., and Anastacia Geboe of Kalispell, Mont. ; her sons, Robert (Anna Big Bow) Geboe III of Rocky Boy and Mike ( Shauna) Geboe of Rocky Boy; sisters, Luanne Belcourt of Rocky Boy, Myrtle Belcourt of Phoenix, Ariz., Leota Standing Bear of Billings, Mont., and Linda Belcourt of Rocky Boy; brothers, Myrle (Wilma) Belcourt of Rocky Boy, Robert "Sunny" (Ona Denny) Belcourt of Rocky Boy and Kermit (Angie Eagleman) Corcoran of Havre, Mont. ; 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
