Fire chars land east of Havre

A fire east of Havre charred several hundred acres Tuesday

Firefighters were on the scene late into the afternoon.

nesses said the flames flew high into the air late in the morning, after the blaze first erupted.

The fire started near the track on the south side of the river, but the flames jumped the Milk River and started flames in grass north of the river.

Witnesses aid the fire appeared to start near the railroad, where Burlington Northern Santa Fe workers were welding on on a rail car.

The fire was still heading northeast well into the afternoon.
