Amy (Writing Bird) Harris

Amy (Writing Bird) Harris, 70, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.

Amy was born on Feb. 18, 1942, on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation to Charlie and Edith (Chief Goes Out) Writing Bird. She attended the Parker Day School in her younger years, and following her educational years, she married James Harris. The couple later divorced. Amy worked in the kitchen at Rocky Boy Schools, and worked as a CNA for Home Health and the Lutheran Home. She was very proud of her appearance and worked hard to maintain it. She was a very clean person, and enjoyed peyote and rounddance music and sweating. She loved shopping for clothes.

Amy was preceded in death by her daughter, Francine Grace Harris; her parents; her sisters, Caroline Writing Bird Gray, Margaret Writing Bird Weaving and Wilberta Writing Bird Lee; her brother, Calvin Jess Writing Bird; and her adopted brother, Richard Morsette.

She is survived by her daughters, Martina Rose Harris of San Antonio, Texas, and Desirae Lee Writing Bird of Rocky Boy; her sons, Carlos James (Molly Ellenwood) Harris of Julietta, Idaho, Martin Ray (Sandra) Harris of Havre, and Melvin Paul (Sherona Bauer) Writing Bird, Michael and Martin Harris Jr., all of Rocky Boy; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruby (Vidal) Stump and Nadine Morsette, both of Rocky Boy; her brother, Kenneth (Lorena) Writing Bird Sr. and Duncan Standing Rock, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 12 and 13, 2012, at Rocky Boy Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, at Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Kenneth Writing Bird officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
