Margaret S. Hanson
Margaret S. Hanson, 91, passed away on Jan. 8, 2012, at her home at the Eagles Manor in Havre, Mont.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at 10 a. m., at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church. Margaret's wish was to be cremated and have her ashes buried with her late husband, Don. Burial of the ashes at the grave site will be held privately.
Margaret was born in Havre on March 17, 1920, to George and Nell (Haines) Bowery and never wanted to live anywhere else. Margaret and H. Donald Hanson married on June 24, 1941, and she is survived by their five children, Roger (Cheryl), Tom (Katie), Susan, Dick (Jolene) and Janet (Dana). Margaret leaves 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren she called "The Greats. " She is also survived by her sister, Helen Athearn; and brother, George Bowery Jr.
Margaret was a dedicated wife and homemaker. She was widowed in 1969, when Don died unexpectedly, leaving her to raise the two youngest children on her own. Margaret volunteered at Northern Montana Hospital for more than 25 years and devoted several years taking care of her mother at Eagles Manor and later at the Lutheran Home. She was a lifelong member of Van Orsdel United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Agnes Wilder Circle. Margaret enjoyed being social, knitting sweaters, mittens, dishcloths and making quilts, and especially enjoyed giving these things away. Her family and friends fondly remember the cinnamon rolls, doughnuts and pies Margaret enjoyed baking. In later years at the Manor, Margaret loved emailing with her family.
Margaret often expressed her gratitude for the care she received from her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Jolene Hanson of North Havre. The other Hanson children who are from out of the area are also very appreciative of the help they have given Margaret over the years.
Memorials in Margaret's honor may be made to North Central Senior Center or Van Orsdel United Methodist Church.
