The Hill County Museum Board not only had good news to share, but a new member to share it with.
Joel Fladstol made his first appearance as member of the board at their meeting Monday night.
Fladstol lives in Rudyard, where he farms and works as a mechanic.
He said he's "always been interested in learning what happened way back. " He's been working at the museum in Rudyard, managed by his uncle Cliff Ulman, since he was about 12 years old.
Museum Board Chair Judi Dritshulas told Fladstol that working with the board can be hard but rewarding.
"You're in for a good ride here, " Dritshulas said. "I appreciate this group. They're hardworking and have done a lot this year. "
Anna Brumley, manager of the Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump, said that one of those accomplishments was a new record of participants in this weekend's annual atlatl-throwing competition, which drew about 115 throwers. That's about 20 more than last year.
Brumley is also looking for volunteers to help with the Museum Board's foray into Chinook's Sugarbeet Festival on Sept. 21 and 22.
