Donald Clarence Doll

Donald Clarence Doll, 88, of Havre, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 6, 2012, at Northern Montana Care Center. He was in the company of his family.

Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at noon, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. A private committal service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Bluffton, Minn., at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home

Donald was born on Aug. 11, 1924, to Edward and Mary (Klinnert) Doll in Perham, Minn. He was the fourth of 11 children. The family moved to a farm in Bluffton, Minn., in 1943.

A World War II veteran, Don served in the U. S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Don married

Monica Vorder-bruggen, daughter of William and Marie (Weniger) Vorder-bruggen, on July 9, 1946. Together they raised a family of five children.

Don and his

family moved to Havre, then Missoula and back to Havre. He owned a variety of businesses, including Don's Husky Service on 3rd Avenue in Havre, Doll's Floor Covering in Missoula, and Doll's Cabinets and Woodcraft in Havre. He had ingenious mechanical abilities that made his small businesses thrive. Don retired in 1987, but continued to do woodworking projects for his family, friends and customers in his free time.

Don loved the outdoors. Camping, horseback riding, hunting and fishing kept him very active. Winter brought on his love of spear fishing. Don loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed taking them fishing and camping. Don was very involved with the Catholic Church, longtime member of Knights of Columbus and always was involved with church functions. He was a Scout leader and participated in youth events. Don always enjoyed new adventures and challenges. He was a member of an exploration team to explore and photograph a live limestone cave near Zortman, Mont.

Mr. Doll was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, August, Herb and Vernon; sister, Joan Tapia; and one great-grandson, Rylan Zuelke. He is survived by his wife Monica; sons, Chris (Maggie) and Keith (Bonnie) Doll, all of Havre; daughters, Carol Ann Miller of Pollock Pines, Cal., Judy (Patrick) Yancey of Tallahassee, Fla., and Michelle (Tom) Hitchcock of Elko, Nev. ; 13 grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren: and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Adrian (Dorothy) of Havre, Tom (Lozetta) of Lyle, Wash., and Willie (Cheri) of Malta; his sisters, Rosemund (Romey) Wegscheid of Kingman Ariz., Pauline (John) Craig of Harshaw, Wis., and Marie Griffith of Stayton, Ore. ; and many nieces and nephews.
