Officials keep quiet on Rocky Boy shooting

Information is still sparse about the shooting on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation that put one woman in Northern Montana Hospital last week.

The only official information on the case was released Friday by Debbie Bertram, an FBI public relations specialist from the agency's Salt Lake City office, with no updates this morning.

"One adult male is in custody after a shooting this morning on the Rocky (Boy's) Indian Reservation in Montana. One female was shot during the incident, " Bertram said Friday afternoon. "She survived the shooting and is being treated at a hospital. The case is under investigation by the FBI and the Rocky Boy Police Department. "

Since no one has released the name of either party involved, Northern Montana Hospital officials said they cannot release any information on the victim's condition.

The shooting was first called in at 3:30 a. m. Friday, when the hospital told the Hill County Sheriff's Office that a woman had been brought in from Box Elder with a gunshot wound.

The sheriff's office listed the original incident location as JitterBugs, a bar on U. S. Highway 87. Just a few hours after the attack, JitterBugs' owner Jean Belcourt said she didn't know of anything happening at the bar but had been talking with other Box Elder residents about a house close by that was surrounded by police tape.
