Ponies, Beeters meet today

It's a busy week for the Havre High tennis teams, as the Blue Ponies play on their hoe courts for the only time this season.

And that week officially starts today when the HHS girls host the Chinook Sugarbeeters in a dual meet in Havre. The tennis action starts at 4 p.m.

The Blue Pony girls and Beeters meet once a year on the tennis court and it's always a good dual. Both teams have recently captured state championships with the Ponies winning a Class A title in 2009 and Chinook winning a B-C championship back in the spring of 2010.

"This is always a competitive dual," Havre head coach George Ferguson said. "Thom (MacLean, Chinook coach) does a really good job with that program. He always has his girls playing well and he does a great job of teaching them the fundamentals and how to apply them in matches. I'm always really impressed with his teams and this dual will help our young team get better."

Today's dual will start at 4 p.m. at the Bill Vaughey Memorial Tennis Courts in Havre.

The Blue Ponies' busy week continues Saturday when they host Cut Bank, Conrad and Lewistown for the annual Havre Invitational.
