Elinior Clack
Elinor R. Clack, 95, formerly of Havre, Mont., passed away Nov. 27, 2011, at Viewpointe Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. of natural causes. A memorial service is being planned for late June 2012 in Havre. A notice will be sent out several weeks before the date. Arrangements were handled by Celebration of Life in Colorado Springs.
Elinor served in the American Red Cross during World War II in New Guinea and Astoria, Wash. She graduated from the University of Montana with a bachelor's degree and from the University of Washington with a master's degree in nutrition. While working at Northern Montana College as a dietitian, she met her husband-to-be H. Louis Clack. After marrying in 1956, they lived on the family farm south of Havre until Louis's death in 2005. In 2008 she moved to Monument, Colo., to live with her daughter Jeanette Clack and her family.
Elinor was always very interested and involved with Montana and Havre history. She worked with other local people to save Fort Assinaboine as a historical resource. Later she was curator and then a volunteer at the H. Earl and Margaret Turner Clack museum and led tours of the museum and the Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo jump. She especially enjoyed taking school children on tours of the buffalo jump and museum and bringing the past alive to them. She supported the Hands on History program in Havre for the same reason. She volunteered at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre and at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Box Elder. She was employed by the Federal Extension Service and was assigned to Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in Box Elder, Mont. Elinor was always regarded as a bundle of energy in all that she did.
Elinor is survived by her daughter Jeanette Clack (Sabolik); son-in-law Jerry Sabolik; and two grandchildren, Nicholas C. Sabolik and Lydia F. Sabolik of Monument, Colo.
Memorials are suggested to the Clack Museum Foundation, P.O. Box 1496, Havre, Mt. 59501, or St. Anthony's Catholic Church P.O. Box 3009, Box Elder, Mt. 59521.
